Sunset Engagement Session on Yellowcraigs Beach, Scotland

I'm shooting Sara & Cameron's wedding in July this year so had an absolute blast spending some time with them on their engagement session! As an Edinburgh based, destination wedding photographer, I love travelling all over the world to capture my couples special days because you usually get to work in the most beautiful light. Well, I needed only to travel one hour out of Edinburgh and over to the gorgeous Yellowcraigs Beach in East Lothian for some stunning light and location for this shoot.

We had a very pleasant 17 degrees give or take, but make no mistake, that water was so freaking cold it actually hurt! Sara and Cameron still made it look effortless even though I was subjecting to freezing conditions. Great sports!

I always ask my couples to meet me at this time of day for engagement shoots because the light is so beautiful at this time of the evening. Any earlier and the sun is too high and gives a harsh light, not great on skin tones!

So if you are planning your engagement session, it's worthwhile waiting for a nice day! Unlike a wedding, you can choose the weather for your engagement shoot! Leave it until about 1 hour before sunset to head out!

I always like to style my couples rather than having them in the usual everyday clothes, it's your engagement session, so why not go all out and get dressed up for it! I love Sara in her short summery dress and Cameron looked awesome in dark, rolled up chinos and blue shirt.

Can't wait for the big day now!
