There was a real mix of Canadian and Scottish elements in Karen and Jamie's wedding. I loved that they mixed Scottish and Canadian whiskies during the ceremony and passed the cup around all of the guests who dared to drink it! The ceremony was very intimate and emotional yet relaxed and personal, just the way they wanted it. The couple were joined in celebration by their son JJ and daughter Lily. The wedding was just as much about the kids as it was them. Family came from Canada joining Karen's side to give them a truly memorable day.
Abbotsford as a venue is just a stunning location and perfect for these types of weddings. Walking in the front door you are greeted by suits of armour, two-hundred-year-old hand painted wallpaper and of course the Library and study of Sir Walter Scott. Imagine signing your marriage certificate at the very desk that playwrights, poetry and novels were created by Scott. There's a real romance with this historic house, a treasure trove of intriguing objects and unusual artefacts. It's different from any place I've shot a wedding in before, you feel like you are walking on sacred ground almost. The surrounding grounds are opulent as the house itself perfectly maintained and provided a stunning backdrop.
The evening was relaxed and informal. The couple wanted their guests to move around the house enjoying great wine and conversation in one of the many rooms, backed by a soundtrack from the string quartet.
I absolutely loved getting to know Karen and Jamie and their family, such a welcoming bunch. Thank you again for putting your trust in me to capture your special day. Best wishes.
